John Murphy
"The voice of the Buffalo Bills"
Western New York native John Murphy has held the title of "Voice of the Buffalo Bills" since he was named the radio play-by-play announcer for the NFL team in 2004. John previously was the Bills radio color analysist alongside Buffalo broadcasting legend Van Miller in 1984-89 and again in 1994-2003 when he took over for the retiring Miller.
A 1978 graduate of the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Murphy began his professional career calling high school sports in his hometown of Lockport, NY. He was hired by WBEN radio as Sports Director in 1984 and soon took over for another retiring Buffalo sports legend Rick Azar at WKBW TV in 1989. He joined WIVB TV as sports director in 2008 where he anchored daily sportscasts until he departed in 2012 to focus on his duties with the Buffalo Bills.
Murphy lives in the Town of Orchard Park with his wife, former WKBW consumer affairs reporter and former Orchard Park Supervisor Mary Travers.
